New Selections and Processes

Hi All,

The non-fiction seems to be an unpopular choice with some people who shall remain nameless (ahem!)...So it seems to me that we need to come up with a book selection process. We could come up with a selection pool of books and then vote on some. We could assign a person to choose and alternate each month on who chooses. We could select both a fiction and non-fiction book to read each month...but then that makes it pressing on those of us who have little time to sit down and read. Let me know your ideas for choosing books each month and which ones you'd like to read and what you'd like to discuss. Happy Reading!

Sharon

The way we did it in the book club I was in before was that we assigned people a month that they were in charge of book. This meant that they had to pick 3 books for everyone to vote on. One of the books had to be considered a classic. The other criteria was that it had to be one you had not read before. This person was then in charge of leading the discussion. This usually included picking a couple of points they found interesting in the book and asking questions etc.

Tiana's suggested method sounds VERY good and very workable. I'm in for it!
Does the group leader (that would be Sharon, wouldn't it?) draw the names of group members so there is no bias in choosing who goes next for selecting, or are we just rotating around the group?
And by what day of the pervious month does the selector announce the choosen three books for the group to vote on?
Just wondering--Coral

So it shall be. We will rotate around the group as to who chooses the books. The books you selected should be posted on the site by the 20th (no later than the 21st)of each month and then voted on by the 25th (no later than the 27th if there is a tie) of each month. The person who's turn it is will select 3 books to choose from and the rest of us will vote on them by posting comments. If there is a tie of some sort, the person who's turn it is to select the book will break the tie. The books can vary, but only 1 is allowed to be non-fiction, 1 must be considered a classic or some sort--pulitzer prize winner, old classic, new classic, etc. And you can only have previously read one of your selections. The order of selection will be as follows: Coral, JuliAnne, Sharon, Tiana. Anyone else who joins us can be added into the mix at any time.

The person who selects the book also must lead discussion. Please think of at least 5 points of discussion or questions that are pertinent to the book. Coral chose March, JuliAnne chose April, Sharon will choose May, and Tiana will choose June. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to make an ammendment to the rules, let me know. THANKS!
